A Legacy of Innovation and Design

The Illinois Institute of Technology has a rich history, dating back to 1890 through the merger of the Armour Institute and Lewis Institute. Today, it enjoys recognition as a top-tier institution, consistently ranking among the best national universities. The main campus itself is a landmark, featuring iconic architecture designed by the legendary Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and earning a place on the National Register of Historic Places. This legacy of design and innovation weaves into the very fabric of the university, making it one of the most beautiful and inspiring campuses in the country. For students, this means learning in an environment that has served as a cradle of modern design and technological thought for decades.

Unlock Career Opportunities in Chicago

One of the biggest advantages of studying at Illinois Tech is its prime location in Chicago, the third-largest U.S. city and a growing hub for technology, finance, and business. This location does more than just offer a great place to live; it provides a direct gateway to an abundance of professional opportunities. Consequently, students have access to internship and job openings that are often three to five times more abundant than those in typical college towns. Indeed, many students have completed internships at top companies like Google, Microsoft, and IBM, often through faculty connections or student organizations.

Academics, Career Outcomes, and Affordability

Illinois Tech offers over 100 undergraduate and graduate programs, with a particular strength in engineering, computer science, and architecture. Because its graduate salaries rank #1 in Illinois, a degree from here clearly represents an investment in your future. The admissions process is moderately selective, with an acceptance rate of just over 55%, and the university adopts a test-optional policy, meaning you can apply without SAT or ACT scores. While the sticker price for tuition is high, it is important to look at the net price. The average grant aid package for students is over $43,000, with 100% of students receiving some form of grant aid, which significantly brings down the cost. Living in Chicago adds to the experience, but campus life also enriches with over 150 student organizations and modern, award-winning residences.
